The beautiful Esplanade (Spianada as the locals call it)) and the romantic gallery of Liston, are places that you can’t miss to visit. Today a large part of Esplanade is a beautiful public park full of trees and garden seats, while a small part of it still hosts the old English cricket field.
Along the west side of the Esplanade stands the Liston building designed and built by the French engineer Lesseps who was inspired by the Rue Rivoli in Paris. With its nice gallery full of coffee shops and restaurants, the Liston is today the heart of the social life in Corfu.Kanoni & Pondikonissi
Pontikonissi (the mouse island) and Kanoni (named after the cannon once sited here) are the two most photographed islets of Corfu!Corfu Town
Corfu town is one of the most charming and historic places in the entire Greece. In 2007, the historic town centre was included in the monuments of world cultural heritage of UNESCO.
Surrounded by the sea, standing between two imposing fortresses the town is a perfect example of Byzantine and Venetian architecture.
Narrow paved streets lit by venetian lamp posts and spots with panoramic views, high houses built of local stone, magnificent public buildings and squares, parks and gardens all bring to mind past times, revealing at the same time the joie de vivre of today’s contemporary town and its inhabitants!St. Michele and St. Giorgio palace
On the north side of the Esplanade stands the Royal Palace of Corfu, called also St. Michele and St. Giorgio palace. Built in 1820 under G.Whithmore Army General is the only example of Georgian architecture in all the Mediterranean area.
Used in the past firstly by English and then by the Greek Royal Family, today it hosts the Museum of Asiatic Arts, the Historical Archive and the Classic Relics Authority of Corfu.Saint Spyridonas
The most famous religious monument of the island: the church of Saint Spyridonas.
Constructed in 1590 it is a typical example of ecclesiastical architecture of the Ionian islands in Greece. In this church there is next to the altar a silver urn of the 19th Century containing the relics of the Saint who is considered to be Corfu’s protecting saint.Kum quat: the golden orange
In Chinese Kum quat means Golden orange. Indeed kumquats resemble tiny oranges, eaten with the skin and tasting bittersweet. Corfu’s trademark is the famous Kum quat liqueur although the little fruits are also used in cooking and processed into sweets, marmelade and even perfume.
